Cleaning tips before decorating, clean well before you decorate.

With Spring cleaning around the corner decorating may be on your agenda. I am also thinking of decorating and realise that there will be much hard work and preparation before I even get near a paintbrush!


Here are some essential tips before you even get started:

1. Look at decluttering your room and take anything that your don't need to charity, recycle or bin.
2. Box up all your items and cover will protective bubblewrap etc. and move to another area.
3. Clear as much furniture as you can from the room.
4. Now that the room is clear you can see the area that you will be working on and you can start putting your ideas together.
5. Now comes the Spring cleaning to make the paintwork clean for new paint and wallcoverings.

Tackle dado rails and high reach areas first using warm soapy water and a strong cloth.  This method should swiftly remove dust and grime from skirting boards too. 

Next look at the walls, are you using wallpaper or paint?  Do you need to 'size' the wall before papering, a wash or wallpaper paste and water usually work well .  What about paint, is your plaster able to adhere the paint, usually a PVA glue mix to the wall leaving to dry creates a good base before painting.

Make sure you have cleaned any spilt preparing products before painting.

My favour part is putting the room back together and dressing, make sure your floor coverings look gorgeous and your carpets cleaned.
